Philippine’s President Duterte Says Christian God is ‘Stupid’, Angering Christians everywhere

During a June 22 summit in Davao City, on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, the country’s president, Rodrigo Duterte, referred to the God of the nation’s enormous population of Catholic faithful as “stupid.”

Duterte, in recounting the Catholic Church’s version of the Adam and Eve creation myth, stated: “Adam ate it then malice was born. Who is this stupid God?”

The Philippine strongman continued in a similar vein, remarking: “That son of a bitch is stupid if that’s the case.”

“That was your mother and father’s deed,” Duterte extrapolated to the audience, adding, “you weren’t born yet, but now you have original sin. What kind of religion is that? I can’t accept it,” cited by Philippineslifestyle.com.

Duterte nonetheless asserted his belief in a “universal mind.”

“I believe there is a universal mind. But [to] what extent is the influence of the — I cannot picture him as a human being […] But I really believe, I have this faith and abiding thing about — but don’t believe in religion,” he stated.

Some two years ago, during his first presidential campaign, Duterte infuriated the enormous Catholic population in the country by cursing Pope Francis for the latter’s contributing to increased vehicular traffic in the country’s capital of Manila during a state visit.

Duterte made similar comments earlier this month during a meeting with the Filipino community in South Korea.

“If that’s the Catholic God, that’s a lie. Seek God right,” Duterte said during the June 3 meeting.

A week after Duterte made those remarks, the Catholic Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan, Socrates Villegas, released a statement criticizing the cursing of God.

“The list of cuss words against God is endless. God is still God and those who have cursed Him are now dust,” Villegas, former president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, said on June 10.

“When you spit upwards, your spit will return to your face. The more you spit at God, the more spit you bring to your face. It is the law of gravity. It is also the law of divine justice,” he added.

“For those who dare to teach you error, pray for them and forgive them. They might be insane or possessed. They need God. They need your prayers and love and compassion,” Villegas offered.

Duterte’s provocative comments about God come in the wake of the recent killing of three Catholic clergymen in the Philippines.

The Philippines is considered to be the only dominantly-Christian nation in Asia, with over 86 percent of the population — some 76 million people — avowing Roman Catholicism.

  1. That is what freedom means. Freedom means that people can speak their mind without being afraid that some religious freak will behead him/her. I would like to see the equivalent in Islam. Can one criticize God or (even worse) his prophet Muhammad? No. Terror rules in Islam, fear is the bread eaten every morning, afternoon and evening. There are millions like Duterte in “Christendom”. Some speak out, some just have these questions/doubts inside. But just because Duterte and others don’t understand doesn’t mean that what happened in Eden and afterwards is senseless. God creates beings which can’t discern good and evil. They have to experience it in order to understand. That is why God allowed Adam to disobey. He (and all of us) had to experience what disobedience brings and how bitter can be in order to appreciate more obedience. After this experience called life, most of humans will choose obedience knowing what high price will be paid for disobedience. Adam (and all of us) will have the chance to live the second life after this because Jesus Christ made this possible. He was the only one capable to pay the price God demanded : ” A perfect man for a perfect man”
Jesus for Adam. Thus, once Jesus will choose his “Church” or “Bride” as co-rulers, He will come back and implement on Earth, God’s standards. All people will be resurrected and will have to obey by the rules which will govern Earth and will come from God via Jesus and His “Church/Bride/Levite-priests”.
Those who will choose Him and will obey His edicts will live. Those who refuse will die in the “second death”. Even Duterte will understand this simple fact in the future when Jesus will set up His Heavenly government here on Earth.
