White supremacists just marched through Charlottesville in one of the largest racist rallies in the last decade. The event featured mostly young white men chanting such phrases as “blood and soil,” “you will not replace us,” and “white lives matter.”
The event took place both Friday night and Saturday morning in protest of a scheduled removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from Emancipation Park (formerly Lee Park). Counter-protesters also arrived in at least equal numbers, and the two often violently clashed. Most notably, a motorist intentionally drove into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing at least one.
